[1] - Jean Barres claims that his Guard Chasseurs were at Heilsberg.
This regiment consisted of 2 battalions and was brigaded together
with the Guard Grenadiers. Barres writes, "When we reached the
heights above the plain before the town of Heilsberg, not far from
the left bank of the Alle, there had been sharp fighting since the
morning." (Barres - "Memoirs of a French napoleonic officer" pp 107-108)
[2] - During the Napoleonic Wars the name of the two regiments of Fusiliers were altered several times:
Regiment of Fusiliers-Grenadiers:
- - - - - 1806 Regiment de Velites-Grenadiers
- - - - - 1806 2e Regiment de Fusiliers
- - - - - 1809 Regiment de Fusilier-Grenadiers
Regiment of Fusiliers-Chasseurs:
- - - - - 1806 Regiment de Fusiliers
- - - - - 1806 1er Regiment de Fusiliers
- - - - - 1809 Regiment de Fusiliers-Chasseurs
[3] - According to James Arnold ("Napoleon's Triumph") this brigade
(Candras') consisted of 10th Light and 22nd Line Regiment (p. 357)
Buget's brigade comprised of 14th Light and 36th Line Infantry Regiment (p. 37)
[4] On 1 June 1807 the 1st Infantry Division under General Oudinot,
also called the "Grenadier Division", consisted of 16 elite battalions:
1st Brigade
- - - - - I/1st Provisional Regiment (6 carabinier companies)
- - - - - II/1st Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
- - - - - I/2nd Provisional Regiment (6 grenadier companies)
- - - - - II/2nd Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
2nd Brigade
- - - - - I/3rd Provisional Regiment (6 carabinier companies)
- - - - - II/3rd Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
- - - - - I/4th Provisional Regiment (6 grenadier companies)
- - - - - II/4th Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
3rd Brigade
- - - - - I/5th Provisional Regiment (6 grenadier companies)
- - - - - II/5th Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
- - - - - I/6th Provisional Regiment (6 grenadier companies)
- - - - - II/6th Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
4th Brigade
- - - - - I/7th Provisional Regiment (6 carabinier companies)
- - - - - II/7th Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
- - - - - I/8th Provisional Regiment (6 grenadier companies)
- - - - - II/8th Provisional Regiment (6 voltigeur companies)
In December 1808 Napoleon began breaking up Oudinot's division by
returning those companies whose parent regiments were assigned to
Bernadotte's and Davout's army corps. Thus this crack division was
reduced to 10 elite battalions. In 1809 this division was disbanded.
[5] - "Journaux de marche" (Archives Historiques) mentions this division as present at Heilsberg.
I have also checked Tony Broughton's article "French Cuirassier Regiments and the Colonels
who Led Them: 1792 to 1815" for the battle record of the 1st, 5th, 10th and 11th Regiment.
To my disappointment none of them was present at Heilsberg.
1st Cuirassier Regiment - 1807: Hoff and Eylau
5th Cuirassier Regiment - 1807: Hoff, Eylau, Wittenberg, and Koenisberg
10th Cuirassier Regiment - 1807: Eylau and Hoff
11th Cuirassier Regiment - 1807: Eylau and Friedland

[1] - James Arnold gives the following order of battle of Bagration's Advance Guard (p. 360):
Cossack Brigade - Illovaisky-IV's (three Cossack regiments)
Grodno Hussar Regiment (10 sq.)
Baggovut Brigade - 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 24th Jager (each 3 btns.)
Rayevsky Brigade - 5th, 20th, 25th, and 26th Jager (each 3 btns.)
Markov-I Brigade - Moscow Grenadier, Pskov Musketier, Tenginsk Musketier
Kostroma Musketier, and Staroskol Musketier Regiment (each 3 btns.)
Attached to the Advance Guard - Olenetsky, Novgorod, Tverskoy, and Pskov Militia Marksmen Battalions
Artillery - two horse batteries
[2] - initially Pahlen's detachment was on the south bank of the Alle River, later moved to the north bank
[3] - GM Pahlen was commanding a detachment (see "Pahlen's Detachment" above)
[4] - GM Borosdin was commanding the rear guard (see "Borosdin's Rear Guard" above)
[5] - according to James Arnold this brigade was part of Prince Golitsyn-V's cavalry
[6] - James Arnold, p.363. gives total of 92 guns in eleven batteries.
(By the way, if each battery had 12 guns there would be 132 guns. I guess some batteries were understrength.)
